Day 1 (Door to Door)

Arrive San Jose

Enjoy your private car door to door transfer to your departure airport before your flight to San Jose where a transfer is provided to your first hotel. At 6pm gather at the hotel with your Tour Director and travel companions for a Welcome Drink.

Day 2

San Jose - Tortuguero National Park (2)

An early start today as we head east over scenic mountains and through lush rainforests towards the Caribbean Sea. We visit a banana plantation to learn about banana production and snack on a just-ripe banana before arriving in Tortuguero National Park, a beacon of biodiversity and where we embark upon a river journey through the protected wetlands. Then we stroll the streets of Tortuguero Village and explore the fascinating Green Turtle Research Station. (FB, L, D)

Day 3

Tortugeuro National Park

sightseeing and at leisure We cruise the canals and streams of the park today as howler monkeys watch from the treetops, toucans and egrets fly through the air and crocodiles ply the cool waters. If you're here between July and September, take an optional tour to see the sea turtles laying eggs on the beach. (FB, L, D)

Day 4

Tortugeuro - Sarapiqui

Bid adios to the park as we travel along the river before boarding our coach for a visit to the small village of Horquetas. Here we visit a local Tico family palm plantation to learn all about and taste the delicate heart of palm. We travel on to tiny Sarapiqui and step off the beaten path in this little-visited area surrounded by dense rainforests and full of wildlife. This afternoon, immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area around your lodge - perhaps you'll spot the endangered great green macaw. (FB, L, D)

Day 5

Sarapiquí - Arenal

Today we journey into the past to discover the pre- Columbian ruins at Alma Ata Archaeological Park. Later we experience warm Tico hospitality as we're welcomed into a local family's home for a Be My Guest Lunch and a dance performance by local students. Then it's on to Arenal, a 5,000-foot-tall peak that's one of the world's most active volcanoes. Soak away the dust from the road in the thermal pools and waterfalls at idyllic Tabacon Hot Springs. Tonight we enjoy a Highlight Dinner beside the hot springs in the shadow of the volcano followed by a magical experience as we head out on an outing to watch Arenal spume fiery lava(from a safe distance) after dark. Day 6

Arenal - Monteverde Cloud Forest (2)

Straddling Costa Rica's Continental Divide, the Monteverde Cloud Forest is home to luxuriant vegetation, abundant wildlife, coffee plantations and spectacular views. We spend two nights in this most famous of Costa Rican parks and begin exploring from the grounds of our mountain lodge before enjoying a Highlight Dinner at a local restaurant. (FB, HD)

Day 7

Monteverde Cloud Forest sightseeing and at leisure

A park naturalist guides us through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, home to innumerable species of animals, birds, insects and plants.We ascend the treetops for a bird'seye view of the forest on the unforgettable SkyWalk, a chain of six suspension bridges at canopy level.We also learn about Monteverde's Quaker community and their role in dairy production when we visit a local cheese factory and sample some of the country's finest Gouda, Swiss and Parmesan cheese. Share your experiences with your fellow travellers at a festive Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant. (FB, FD)

Day 8

Monteverde - Liberia - Guanacaste (2)

The beach awaits! We head to the pristine Pacific coast, where we check in to our seaside resort, located directly on the white sands of lovely Tamarindo Beach. Slip into your swimsuit and enjoy the sand and surf this afternoon. (FB)

Day 9

Guanacaste at leisure

The day is yours to relax on the beautiful beach or get to know the underwater life while snorkelling. Other optional tours include an exploration of the rainforest canopy, a float trip on a nearby river, horseback riding, white-water rafting or a visit to a national park. (FB)

Day 10

Guanacaste - Depart Liberia

A complimentary transfer is provided to Liberia International Airport for your return flight back to the UK. (FB)

On arrival at your UK airport, your driver will greet you and escort you to your waiting private car for your door to door transfer to your home.

    The tour was good, but we felt that there was penny pinching at some of the hotels.Excellent hotel at start of tour, but had no chance to appreciate any of the facilities.Food was ok,but limited choice.Salads and soft drinks were not cold.Often no facilities for coffeee making or fridge-important in climate and itinerary-. Guide was very good,transport was good.Pace of tour was good as you did have the beach break at the end,and there was a great deal to see.
    Overall good tour, but second and third hotels have to provide better quality food.

    A well organised tour.Chauffeur service was particularly good.Guide was knowledgeable,and gave us the feeling of security.Tranisit time in Houston too short,we missed our on going flight due to secuiity,and passport control.United Airlines very helpful.

    The whole tour was fantastic. Our guides were so knowledgeable about the wild life and nature it made it all the more interesting. the lodges we stayed in were very nice and in keeping with the environment. Very good value for money.

    This tour was so well organised, our guides in Costa Rica,Cesar and Danny added so much, very friendly and informative. Costa Rica is just beautiful.
    We did find the transit change in Newark,New York, stressful, particularly on our return when our flight from Costa Rica was late in which left us very little time for customs,home secuity checking etc., in New York.Got on the flight there by the skin of our teeth...whhoooo.

    Excellent tour directors, hotels, excurisons and variety of activities included in the price. Most meals included so did not spend much money on the tour. It is very interesting being with people from other countries, plenty to talk about at mealtimes!
    Beautiful country although really the beach could be anywhere in the Caribbean or Mexico.

    Excellent value, excellent couriers. Excellent experiences. My only critisism ( and it is a very small one) is that perhaps TOO much was squeezed into the time available.
    We had two weeks experiences in 9 days. This left almost no time to use the facilities of the hotels we stayed in.
    Overall though, wonderful.
